Skiatos – the trend of the flight
Skiathos, an emerald island belonging to the Northern Sporades archipelago, has long been a favorite vacation spot for European tourists. Thanks to the tour operator Pantheon, now Russian lovers of Greece can discover and love this paradise in the Aegean Sea. From June 1, weekly direct flights Moscow-Skiathos are open here. Travel time is just over 3 hours. Flights depart every Sunday.
Despite the fact that Skiathos is generously favored by the sun – there are about three hundred sunny days in a year, he is buried in verdure all year round. Already on approach you notice its abundance on the island and it does not fade over the summer. Small and compact island airport was built in 1972. Until then, it was only possible to get to the island with your own yacht. Therefore, Skiathos is sometimes called the island of millionaires.
Today the island is a traditional holiday destination, mainly of the British and Scandinavians. Skiathos is not yet spoiled by Russian tourists. However, it is not so difficult to meet Russian speech here. Many immigrants from the former Soviet republics live on the island. They keep their restaurants, small souvenir shops and with great warmth meet our compatriots. In general, the people on Skiathos, as in all of Greece, are incredibly welcoming. The island’s population is about 6 thousand people. The bulk of the population lives in the capital, Skiathos. Souvenir shops and taverns are concentrated on the main street of the city Papadiamanti. Here you can buy sandals and handmade jewelry, as well as very high-quality cosmetics, made on the basis of olive oil.
Of course, shopping is not the most important pastime on the island. His main wealth is delightful nature! From the port of Skiathos, you can go on an excursion around the island, visiting the most unique and beautiful beaches of the island. Skiathos coast has about 60 beaches. However, some of them can be reached exclusively by sea. One of these beaches is Lalarya. He is rightly considered one of the most beautiful on the island. Surrounded on all sides by silver rocks, it is striking in its wild beauty.
Another magical beach – Castro. At the top of its rocks, immersed in vegetation, are the ruins of an old fortress. In one of its churches preserved frescoes of the XVI century.
The next beach on the route can be a sandy beach on the island of Zugrias. The island is just some distance from Skiathos. The water here is turquoise like on the Caribbean islands, and the sand is golden! Going into the clear water, it is impossible not to notice how it shimmers and sparkles. Very fascinating!
Upon returning to the capital, you just need to visit the open-air cinema, located on the main street! Here once a week the film Mamma Mia is shown. All because it was on Skiathos and the neighboring island of Skopelos that this famous musical was filmed. The tour operator Pantheon even organized a unique route “According to the filming locations of Mamma Mia”.
Another excursion that must be included in your program is a cruise to the neighboring islands – Skopelos and Alonissos. The skeleton is incredibly beautiful. Narrow streets with whitewashed houses and blue windows are full of bright bougainvillea flowers. Small shops with handmade souvenirs do not allow to pass by – it is difficult to avoid the temptation and not to stop to buy something for memory. You can stop to eat at one of the port taverns. Greek food is incredibly tasty. Eating a traditional Greek salad and the freshest seafood by the sea, you can admire the incredible amount of snow-white yachts from different countries moored at the pier.
A week on the island flies by. Skiathos fascinates from the first vzdyad and from the first breath. Unwittingly you begin to envy people who are fortunate enough to live here. On the island you relax in body and soul, and when you return home, you dream to return to this amazing island, Skiathos Island, again!
